Brendan Rodgers is not the right man for Leicester, his time in the Premier League ended in 2015 and it should stay that way
Brendan Rodgers is the new manager of Premier League side Leicester City after a lot of ‘success’ at Celtic in SPL.
Rodgers last excursion within the bright lights of the Premier League came at Liverpool and that did not end well. After early success at Anfield, Rodgers sides declined and became known for daft defensive mistakes and a strong ability to throw away leads via conceding late goals. The inevitable came and Rodgers was removed, the former Swansea boss later admitting the stress from the experience, had, at one point, left him in a hospital bed. Ever since then Rodgers has been on a sort of football honeymoon with Scottish champions Celtic, winning basically everything domestically, every single year.
Rodgers CV has gained a lot of trophies since he left for the north, including three Scottish League Cups and two Scottish Premierships. Great, right? Well no. Let’s be honest, is has there been any and I mean any, competition for the men in green? Scotland’s top flight consists of twelve tames, most of which have a team worth less than most League One sides. So, imagine pitching a side with the likes of Craig Gordon, Scott Sinclair and Dedryck Boyata, all former Premier League players, against a bunch of League One sides, it’s not much competition is it. In all honesty, for Rodgers team to lose a single game domestically then it should go down as a bad season. Realistically the only real aim at Celtic is to do some damage in Europe and that went terribly for Rodgers on too many occasions.
For Leicester City to appoint Rodgers, Leicester City being a mid-table side with clear aspirations of moving higher (you would of thought), would be beyond stupid. The lack of credentials stands out heavily, Rodgers struggled at Liverpool and if it wasn’t for Luis Suarez being on World-Class form, Liverpool didn’t get anywhere. His time at Swansea was a situation of get and stabilise, which with the help of a brilliant set up there, he did very well I’ll admit but could have moved that team forward? No, he proved that at Liverpool after they took a winded punt on the then young coach, they got that second-place finish and then what? They regressed quicker than Wayne Rooney’s whistle stop return to Everton.
Success in Scotland is nothing, everyone knows that, Rodgers time at LFC was rather ugly in the end, so the only thing we have to go on is that short period in the Premier League with Swansea City, not much is it? Perfect quality manager for the top division then.
This appointment is a bad idea and that will become clear soon enough, Rodgers time in the Premier League ended in 2015 and until he proves elsewhere he can really improve a team, it should stay that way.
