The Curious Case of the Titans next QB

The Curious Case of the Titans next QB

The Tennessee Titans fell just short of a Superbowl appearance losing to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. After a season of overperforming and an amazing playoff run, one question remains, who will be the Titans signal caller in 2020?

The team from the music city started the season with former number two overall pick Marcus Mariota starting in the center, Mariota was replaced in Week 6 by former Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill who turned the team’s fortunes around and led them to a 9-7 regular season record and a Wild Card berth in the playoffs.

The change at QB (Credit to Mike Vrabel) invigorated Tennessee and led them on a wave which took them all the way the AFC Championship game and past the Championship holders the New England Patriots. All this is really a credit to the whole team and staff, the season that was had, was truly special. But here’s where the questions lie.

Despite the impact that Tannehill had on the offence, when he threw under 100 yards, he went 7-0, when he threw over 100 yards? 4-8. The offence was run on Derrick Henry’s back, granted AJ Brown was a shiny light out wide but this team can’t win all the time with under 100 yards in the air. That was evident at Arrowhead, the Titans have a lot of components to make them a Playoff team, and don’t get me wrong, Tannehill did a stellar job, but in the long run it just won’t work.

With both Mariota and Tannehill hitting free agency this off season, it really opens the door up for Tennessee. The side has really just opened itself a Superbowl window and with a top level QB involved, the ceiling on this team is very high.

With the Draft coming up along with free agency, I do believe its time for the Titans to start assessing their options and looking for their ideal QB. Don’t jump the gun on this, if you need to wait a year and keep Tannehill, by all means do, I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve that chance. If there’s a trade there take it but get this one right.

In my personal opinion, I’m on the side of finding your man in the draft, the next two years have quite heavy QB classes meaning a lot will drop in the draft, find the right guy and it gives you an opportunity to add a playmaker on either side of the ball and really complete the team.

Either way, get a top level QB and the futures bright in Nashville.
