Kyrie should go to New York, but only if KD does

Now the NBA season has come to a close, trade and free agency rumours are floating around all over the place.

With major stars such as Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and 2019 Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard (to name but a few) up for grabs, this offseason has the potential to be quite fun. Teams like the LA Clippers, Lakers, Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks all have cap space to acquire these stars.

Rumours of Kyrie moving out of his home near Boston to move towards New York have been all over the internet today after moving Trucks were pictured outside Kyrie’s house, so here’s my take on Kyrie’s possible move to the big apple.

Kyrie in NYC is definitely something that can work, but its not something he can make work solely on his own, we saw that when young Kyrie was in charge of the old Cav’s team before LeBron’s return, it just didn’t work and though Kyrie has grown up and evolved, there just isn’t a chance he can lead this Knicks team to better place than where the Celtics are right now.

I believe the Knicks should take a punt on two of the big stars, Kyrie and Kevin Durant, and I’m saying this despite KD’s achillies injury. The Knicks do have some promising stars in Knox and Robinson, but both of them need some time to develop and if KD is out for a year then so be it, it gives those players time to get to know Kyrie and adapt to him so that when KD returns, Kyrie will be near enough on point weekly. Kyrie has said in the past he needs to step up as a leader, well why not in NYC, where he’s from and take the Knicks from scratch. And all this is before I mention the Knicks do have the third pick in this year’s draft.

I must state that I only see this happening if KD goes to New York also without him, I don’t see this being a beneficial move for Kyrie, he needs back up and a two-time NBA Finals MVP ain’t bad.

With all this said I like Kyrie in Boston, I believe with the right moves he can get his name in the rafters there, but should the Knicks come calling and they have the correct pieces, I’ll understand.
