Why the young kids of Ajax taking down the Old Lady is more than just poetic.

Last night in the Champions League Quarter-Finals, the very young team of Ajax knocked out Italy’s pride and joy, Juventus, to book a place in the Semi-Finals.

A standout performance from a starting line-up that contained only two players over the age of 30 and 8 players under the age of 27. They took control of the game from start to finish. The old lady had to revert to set pieces to get any luck against this Ajax team, who were passing like Barcelona by 70 minutes in.

This Ajax team has a feeling of revolution and gives a sense of an opening in the world of European football. Juventus recruited in the summer by spending £99.2 million, with the additions hoping to be the final piece to help Juventus finally defeat Europe, despite this they were beautifully taken apart by an Ajax team, whose captain is just 19.

The team from the Dutch capital had all the flair composure and guts you need to win as an underdog and with that being, by the 80th minute, they were playing it around the back as if it was a training routine.

With one of the team already destined for Barcelona, we are witnessing the birth of the next stars and they’re taking on Europe one giant at a time.

As for the Old Lady, their Champions League window is closing, their long time back bone of Chiellini and Bonucci are well into their 30s and not to mention the man they thought would be the answer to their European woes, Cristiano Ronaldo is 34 and unfortunately for him, he just can’t seem to not be there when Juventus fall out the Champions League.

There is no doubt, after four back to back performances of brilliance, that this Ajax team will soon but split up, but for now all we should do is mask in the brilliance that this youthful side is showing the world.
